A couple of years ago I came across a tiny hedgehog that needed care. Little did I know then that this would be the start of a new venture. As my love for these beautiful creatures grew so did my knowledge by the way of training and experience. My old single shed with the help of family, was quickly converted into a double shed so I can now house up to 60 hedgehogs at any one time. No sick hedgehog is ever turned away. I currently have some permanent residents that due to there disabilities unfortunately could not survive the wild. Apple who will never grow into an adult because of a condition known as failure to thrive. Maggie who is blind and Toby who has breathing issues caused by a severe infection that has left lung scarring. They all lead a full life here in my care at Hoggles. The rescue is solely by myself and relies on kind donations from followers. Unfortunately not everyone who brings a hedgehog into care can donate.
I have a facebook group in which I regularly post progress and updates on all the hedgehogs in care alone with advice, events, some fundraising, cute photo's and video's.
I am now recognised as qualified and top grade standard by the RSPCA and work closely with Henwick road vets. I also follow all Vale and BHPS guidelines.
Having suffered for years with Agoraphobia this venture has not only helped the species, which are in rapid decline, but has helped me to gain confidence and much happiness as well as providing a focal point for the local community.
